Monetary Donations

The Library accepts donations of materials, cash, and checks. Donations may be made in memory or in honor of someone or to commemorate a special event. Memorial plates will be placed on items purchased. Please make checks payable to the Needham Free Public Library (NFPL) Permanent Donation Fund.

Book Donations

Donations of used books may be placed directly into the large gray bin inside the Rosemary Street entrance. Materials are examined and sorted by subject and condition. Most are made available to the Friends of the Needham Public Library for sale; the proceeds of which benefit Library programs and services.

The Library accepts donations of books in good condition. Most donated items are sold in book sales that support the Library. In rare cases, the collections staff of the Library will choose to add donated items to the collection.

Please do not bring in materials with the following defects:

  • Loose, frayed or broken bindings
  • Yellow, brittle pages
  • Soiled covers and pages
  • Missing pages and illustrations
  • Heavily marked pages
  • Mutilation or damage

In addition, please keep in mind that books may be in excellent physical condition but contain inaccurate or out-of-date information making them of little value.

Tax donation slips are available at all public desks. See the Library Director for further information.

The Library will be closed March 22nd for Staff Development
