Artist Statement

NHS Department of Fine and Performing Arts is proud to present this year’s Scholastic Art Award winners. Student artists of all proficiency levels in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to take a vast array of art courses in multiple medias. Course choices include foundational classes such as Art 1 where students explore basic visual arts concepts and vocabulary, Digital Art, Photography and Advanced AP courses. The selected Scholastic Award winning artwork represents the breadth and depth of this coursework, the extraordinary talent of Needham students, and the commitment of NHS Visual Arts faculty to support and nurture these students towards a sense of mastery and personal growth as shown in their culminating portfolios, and from which many of these pieces are honored here in this exhibit. This year’s exhibit also includes four award winning sculptures from the Pollard Middle School.
