What can we help you find?

Book Sales R Us!

The Friends of the Needham Public Library holds periodic book sales in the library’s Community Room to raise money for our activities in support of the Library. We also host the ongoing Friends’ Book Shop in the library and sell books on Amazon. Our sales feature a wide selection of titles, user friendly organization and attractive prices.

Almost all materials offered at our sales have been donated by the public. Most are used books, but we also sell DVDs, CDs and other media. Books include hardcover fiction and nonfiction, as well as both trade and mass-market paperbacks. Special interest tables offer volumes on sports, arts, history, poetry, drama, travel, religion, cooking, gardening, humor and more. Parents and grandparents enjoy bringing young readers to choose from our extensive selection of picture books, early readers, chapter books and young adult literature.

Three Sales Per Year

Typically we have three periodic sales each calendar year. These are usually in late January/early February, late May/early June, and late September/early October. Your purchases of our quality used books support the library. Friday and Saturday: hardcovers and trade paperbacks are $1, mass market paperbacks 50 cents and CDs/DVDs $1. Sunday: prices slashed 50% and a bag of books costs $6-8 (depending on size). Throughout the sale, Friends’ Book Shop titles are 50% off.

Hours: Friday: 12-4. Saturday: 9-4. Sunday (bargain day): 1-4.

If you would like to receive notices of future periodic book sales by email, please go to our contact page, then fill out and submit the form with a request to “please send book sale notices by email” in the message area.

Book Donations

Donations of used books that are in good condition may be placed directly into the large gray bin inside the Rosemary Street entrance (see photo at right). Materials are examined and sorted by genre and condition. Donations may be sold in our Friends’ Book Shop, in our periodic book sales, or on Amazon. The Friends use all proceeds to benefit the library and library programming.

We do not accept: audio cassettes, VHS cassettes, magazine, puzzles, and games.

Book donations are a major source of revenue, so we thank members of the public for their generous book donations!
