Children’s Room Policy

The Children’s Room is the dedicated space within the Needham Free Public Library for children from birth through grade six and their caregivers. It is a safe space for reading, playing, socializing, and attending programs.


Patrons of all ages are able to actively browse the children’s collection. Patrons not accompanying a child and not actively browsing the children’s collection will be asked to relocate to a different area of the library.


Library staff work to offer diverse programs to meet the needs of children of all ages. Children and their caregivers are welcome to attend programs. Patrons not accompanying a child are not allowed to attend children’s programs.


Covered drinks are allowed in the Children’s Room. Snacks and other foods are allowed in the Craft/Snack Room. The Storytime Room and Craft/Snack Room are not available for private reservations.


Children between the ages of 0-9 must be directly supervised by a responsible person, aged 13 and up, who is either a parent, guardian, or designated caregiver as described in the Safe Child Policy.


All other Needham Free Public Library policies apply to the use of the Children’s Room including, but not limited to, Appropriate Patron Behavior Policy, Computer and Internet Policy and Rules of Use, Photography, Filming and Recording Policy,
and Safe Child Policy.
