The Teen Room is the dedicated space within the Needham Free Public Library for teens (grades 7-12). It is a safe space for reading, studying, socializing, and attending programs. The Teen Room has a quiet study room, a group study space, a craft/cafe space, and a lounge space. The Teen Room is open during library hours. Patrons of all ages may actively browse the collection in the Teen Room at all times. The use of the space is reserved for teens after school and on weekends. During school hours only, patrons of all ages may use the Teen Room for quiet reading only, and must relocate to other portions of the Library if requested by staff.
All other Needham Free Public Library policies apply to the use of the Teen Room including, but not limited to, Appropriate Patron Behavior Policy, Computer and Internet Policy and Rules of Use, Photography, Filming and Recording Policy, and Safe Child Policy.
This policy is being implemented in connection with the initial opening of the Teen Room. The trustees, in consultation with Library staff, intend to monitor usage patterns of the Teen Room to ensure that its use is maximized consistent with the goals set forth in this policy.
